Art nouveau.

師匠から見ておくといいと言われて集めたアール・ヌーヴォーの図案を引っ張り出してきて眺めている。

元々アール・ヌーヴォーは好きで、ラリックやミュシャの作品を見られる機会があれば見に行っていた。
ただ、当時は好きの延長でしかなかったから、図案を見ても綺麗だな、素敵だな、好きだな、ぐらいで終わっていた。

アール・デコも好きだったので、アール・ヌーヴォーと比較して概念や雰囲気などの基本的な部分しか見ていなかった気がする。

今あらためて図案を見てみて、すごいデザインだな…と思った。
植物であれば、花とか実だけでなく茎や根っこだってデザインになってしまう。
草むらにいる鳥、というような風景もデザインになってしまう。
また、その風景を個別にではなく連続させたデザインにしてしまうとこともすごい。
蔦や蔓をモチーフとしてデザインに取り入れることはあったけど、あくまでもその一部分を切り取ってイメージを膨らませるという風にしかしてこなかったので、連続させるという考え方を取り入れるとまた作品の雰囲気が変わっていくな…と思った。

I pulled out my collection of Art Nouveau designs that my mentor had told me I should look at, and looked at them.

I originally liked Art Nouveau and went to see the works of Lalique and Mucha whenever I had the chance.
However, at the time, it was only an extension of my love, so when I saw the designs, I just thought they were beautiful, nice, or that I liked them.

I also liked Art Deco, so I think I only looked at the basic aspects such as the concept and atmosphere compared to Art Nouveau.

Now that I looked at the design again, I thought, “Wow, this is an amazing design…”.
For plants, not only flowers and fruits, but also stems and roots can be used as a design.
A bird in the grass, for example, could be a landscape design.
It is also amazing to see how you can create a series of designs that are not individual landscapes.
I have used ivy and vines as motifs in my designs, but I have only cut out a part of them to create an image, so I thought that the atmosphere of the work would change if I introduced the idea of continuity. I thought, “If I introduce the idea of continuity, the atmosphere of the work will change again…”.
